bullet  General Notes:

Art served in the second world war as a radar operator from 1942 to 1945, on a "Corvette" the H.M.C.S. Brandon a sub-chaser, convoy escort ship. He crossed the Atlantic 32 times (16 round trips). Due to the tough living conditions on board, he received a bonus called " Hard Layers" pay. After the war from 1945 to 1948, Art worked on the tugboats on Okanagan Lake for C. N. Railway Barge and Ferry Service. For the next 20 years he worked at Kelowna Motors, in tire sales and repair. In 1967, he earned a 4th Class Stationary Engineer steam ticket, and a year later, in 1968, he left to begin his employ with the Kelowna School District. He began in Relief and Maintenance, working at a variety of schools and doing everything from mowing lawns to building repairs to machine work. In 1978, he applied for and was given the position of Chief Custodian at Rutland Junior Secondary School. Over the following twelve years, he became well known with both students and teachers, and upon announcing his pending retirement, was given a grand send off which lasted a full month. His last day at the school was May 23rd, 1990.

Arthur married Rose Deutch on 28 Nov 1948 in Penticton, B.C., Canada. (Rose Deutch was born on 28 Aug 1930 in Horizon ( now Rouleau), Sask. and died on 9 Dec 1996 in Rutland, B.C., Canada.)

Art and Rose eloped to Penticton to get married as they had invested all their savings on building their first home at 2273 (?) Aberdeen St. in Kelowna, B.C.. The witnesses at their wedding were Bob McPhee and Ailea Matheota (sp?).
