bullet  General Notes:

Roy was eight years old when his family moved from Leinan, Saskatchewan, to Kelowna B.C. in 1936. After high school, Roy worked at Kelowna Motors in the tire shop, along side his brother, Art. He enjoyed bird hunting and would often borrow Norton's family dog, Skippy, to come along and flush out pheasants with him. Although he never married, he had a number of girlfriends, and a circle of friends whom he enjoyed meeting at the local beer parlours. In time, Roy decided that he wanted to become a fruit farmer, so purchased an orchard property in East Kelowna while still living with his parents on Pandosy Street. He would go to his orchard after his job at the tire shop until, eventually, he was able to make fruit farming a full time job. He also moved into the home on the property. Roy enjoyed success with his orchard for a long time. He was always proud to be able to afford a brand new Cadillac car every few years! After selling this orchard, he moved to an acreage on Munson Road, where he grew and sold hay, and kept a large vegetable garden. In the 1990's, he leased a portion of his land out, which became The Golf Center, a driving range and lessons facility. Roy never married, however he did have a long lasting affair with a married woman named Jeanne Jones. This resulted in him fathering a child whom her mother named Penny Royale Jones. He was aware of his daughter and saw her on many occasions when she was young. Despite her efforts in adulthood to contact him, he refused to recognized or speak to her. Roy's relatives were not aware of Penny's existence until after his death.

Roy stated in his Last Will and Testament that his brothers, Norton, Lawrence, and Art inexplicably "estranged" themselves from him, and consequently he would not bequeath any of his estate to them. The paragraph was maliciously worded and put all blame on his brothers for their non-existent relationship in later years. In truth, the very opposite was more the case, and strongly indicated that Roy was delusional at the time he made this Will. He named the Kelowna Hospital Society as his sole beneficiary, to which his relatives were in total agreement.
