MARRIAGE - The residence of Jas. Thompson, Esq., Agent of American Lloyds was gaily decorated with flags this morning in honour of the marriage of his son, Mr. Joseph Thompson, of the Customs Department, with Miss Mary Clarke, only daughter of Wm. J. Clarke, Esq., of Carleton. The ceremony took place at the Wesleyan Chapel, Carleton, at 6:00 this a. m., in the presence of a large number of friends of both parties, and the wedding dejeuner was afterwards served at the residence of the bride's father. The bride, who is a remarkably amiable and brilliant young lady, was married in a travelling dress of blue poplin, with hat to match, and looked exceedingly lovely. The happy couple took the morning express train for Halifax, with the best wishes of a very large circle of friends for their future welfare.

A telegram received yesterday from Brooklyn, N. Y. brought the sad intelligence in that city of the death of James Thompson who left here in October to take a position in Brooklyn in the employ of Marine Insurance Companies. He caught a cold in Boston and fever set in which resulted in his death. The deceased lived in Carleton (St. John). For about 17 years he held a position under the Insurance Companies represented by Mr. Marshall of this city. His remains will arrive here by tomorrow morn. train.
