Walter Scott Burn ¹⁹

  General Notes:

Walter Scott Burn and Catherine Cecilia Beamish Burn re-purchased Chedoke House in 1882. Vera Olga Cullingford Burn was an infant and Helen Scott Burn, Gordon Scott Burn, and Phyllis Elsie Burn were born there. Gordon died shortly after birth from pneumonia. (There is a legend of a baby dying at Chedoke from being dropped on the hearth --- the family believes this is incorrect). The family belonged to the Barton Church in Hamilton Ontario. The Burn's moved to Detroit Michigan in 1890 where Gwynneth Kathleen Moncrieff Burn was born. They also lived for 10 years at 47 Hawthorne Ave. East Orange N.J. (source old photo). Walter Scott Burn was reported as being a "manufacturer" in the Canadian 1881 census. The family said he often invested in new inventions, sometimes making lots of money and sometimes not!
I n Laura H Burn's obituary writen in 1930 he was described as being located at New York.

Walter married Katherine Cecilia Beamish, daughter of John Sweatman Beamish and Margaret Robertson, on 14 Sep 1880 in Colnay, Ontario. (Katherine Cecilia Beamish was born on 23 Jul 1858 in Cobourg, Ontario, Canada and died in 1943.)
