General Notes:
Written by Kay Would in 1984:
"Ken was my only brother whose twin (Gordon) died soon after a home birth at Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby. He was a terrible tease. He was a weak, sickly child and finally had a serious operation to remove a piece of his intestine at about 7 years. He collected baseball cards and had a guinea pig in a cage as a child. As an adult, he was a political party worker. He worked as an undertaker at Woodlawn-Bowell in New Westminster. He learned the business from Tommy Edwards at T. Edwards Funeral Directors, Vancouver, at age 16."
Excerpts from notes by Barbara Would Schaefer in 1993:
"Whenever any of us visited Vancouver, Uncle Ken would treat us to dinner out in China Town. I do not remember ever being at their house. No matter how full we were, we'd cap the evening off with cheesecake at the Whitespot! He had a wonderful sense of humour and was quite good at mimicking British accents."
Notes by Carol Would Thompson in 2002:
Over the years, Uncle Ken and Auntie Madge had a number of small bulldog type dogs, which they treated as children. Ken preferred Volvo automobiles. He had "road rage" long before it was as known expression, which made our family laugh at the time. He was very close to his mother, and checked in with her almost daily on his way home from work. Ken and Madge sent a postal money order to our family at Christmas every year, which was sufficient to purchase a large turkey and some of the trimmings, and we always received fancy cards on our birthdays. Ken suffered a massive heart attack on the steps of the funeral parlour where he worked, as he returned from a lunch break, and died right there.
Kenneth married Madge Mathews. (Madge Mathews died on 9 Jul 1996 in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.). The cause of her death was cancer.
