Taber, Dr. Alfred Hamman of Taber, celebrated his 89th birthday at his home with members of his immediate family. Present were Dr. Harold Hamman of Calgary , Mrs Patricia Snell, Mrs. Margaret Vickery and Mrs. Gladys Nessman of Taber, and Mrs. Vera Dack of Fort Mcleod.

Dr. Hamman, born in England on April 28, 1866. He graduated early from college with honors and moved to Manitoba as a school teacher in 1888. During his six years teaching there, he studied for his medical degree which he gained in 1895. Returning to England he received advanced degrees in medicine at Edinburgh and Glasgow. He was married in 1899, and returned to Canada to stay in 1909.
In that year in Taber, he took over a local medical practice which he continued until retirement in 1940, then 74 years old. During the same years he was active as the local coroner.
The Dr. Hamman elementary school, recently completed here, was officially opened on April 18th, when school authorities paid tribute to him as a teacher and medical practitioner
